If you find that summer is synonymous with makeup meltdown, fret no more! These simple steps will help you achieve a beautiful, natural look all year round!

Moisturize
- To prevent your foundation from clinging to dry patches, prep the skin with your favorite moisturizer. Try not to overdo it, but rather, blend a thin layer of your moisturizer into the skin to create a smooth, beautifully hydrated canvas. It may be tempting to slather your face with cream to achieve that coveted dewy glow, but this is apt to cause your foundation to move throughout the day. The key is to apply just enough moisturizer to soothe the skin and create a bit of slip to help your foundation glide onto the face, but not melt off. The struggle is real!!
- To refine pores at the center of the face, apply a small amount of primer. My absolute favorite is Vapour Organic Beauty's Stratus Luminous Instant Skin Perfector. Again, it may be tempting to prime your entire face, but less is more.
- Whether you use a sponge, brush, or your fingers, keep in mind that you don't need to completely mask your face to achieve a "flawless" finish. Thin layers are essential! Piling on foundation tends to result in a cakey, heavy look and is more likely to breakup and meltdown throughout the day. It's also just simply not necessary for day-to-day wear. Try to think of the intent of foundation as a means of evening out the tone of the skin and not hiding its beauty.
Conceal Sparingly
Powder - With today's makeup trends completely focused on highlighting and contouring, like me, you may have adjusted your routine to use concealer as a magical, light-boosting aid. However, unless it is a special occasion or you work in a setting that requires you to be filmed or photographed on a daily basis, this just isn't necessary. The more stuff you pile on your face, the more likely it is to slide right off. Pinpoint concealing will revolutionize the way that you do your makeup. Check out this video from amazingly talented makeup artist, Lisa Eldridge, to learn more.
- To lock in your look, press a very thin layer of powder into the skin. My favorite is W3ll People's Bio Brightener Invisible Powder. If you have particularly dry skin, you can likely get away with just powdering the areas that you concealed. However, if your skin is on the oily side, I suggest lightly powdering your entire face and touching up throughout the day if necessary.
